Full-Rating Training Requirements

Your guide to training requirements at each Star Level in the Full-Rating Pathway.

Lead teachers and providers need to have the appropriate hours of training, coaching, consultation, or mentoring in the Knowledge and Competency Framework (KCF) Content Areas outlined below. Requirements are listed by Star Rating Level.

Contact with your Professional Development Advisor (PDA) to ensure you are meeting all requirements.

One-Star Rating

  • Content Area I: Child Development and Learning (8 hours)
  • Content Area IV.A: Observing, Recording, and Assessing Development OR Content Area IV.B: Assessing and Using Information to Plan (2 hours*)

 

Two-Star Rating

  • Content Area I: Child Development and Learning (8 hours)
  • Content Area II.C: Promoting Social and Emotional Development (2 hours)
  • Content Area III: Relationships with Families (6 hours)
  • Content Area IV.A: Observing, Recording, and Assessing Development OR Content Area IV.B: Assessing and Using Information to Plan (2 hours*)

 

Three- and Four-Star Rating

  • Content Area I: Child Development and Learning (10 hours)
  • Content Area II.A-II.E: Developmentally Appropriate Learning Experiences (10 hours)
  • Content Area II.C: Promoting Social and Emotional Development (10 hours)
  • Content Area III: Relationships with Families (10 hours)
  • Content Area IV.A: Observing, Recording, and Assessing Development OR Content Area IV.B: Assessing and Using Information to Plan (10 hours*)

 

*Required even if you have a current, age-appropriate Minnesota teaching license.
