Full-Rating Training Requirements

Your guide to training requirements at each Star-Level in the Full-Rating Pathway.

Lead teachers and providers need to have the appropriate hours of training, coaching, consultation, or mentoring in the Knowledge and Competency Framework (KCF) content areas outlined below. Requirements are listed by Star-Level. A current, age-appropriate Minnesota teaching license, initial Child Development Associate® Credential™ earned within the last three years, or Montessori diploma awarded within the last five years may meet some of the training requirements. Your Professional Development Advisor (PDA) will help ensure your training and education appear on your Learning Record and you are meeting all requirements.

One-Star Rating

  • Content Area I: Child Development and Learning (eight hours)
  • Content Area IV.A: Observing, Recording, and Assessing Development OR Content Area IV.B: Assessing and Using Information to Plan (two hours*)

Two-Star Rating

  • Content Area I: Child Development and Learning (eight hours)
  • Content Area II.C: Promoting Social and Emotional Development (two hours)
  • Content Area III: Relationships with Families (six hours)
  • Content Area IV.A: Observing, Recording, and Assessing Development OR Content Area IV.B: Assessing and Using Information to Plan (two hours*)

Three- and Four-Star Rating

  • Content Area I: Child Development and Learning (10 hours)
  • Content Area II.A-II.E: Developmentally Appropriate Learning Experiences (10 hours)
  • Content Area II.C: Promoting Social and Emotional Development (10 hours)
  • Content Area III: Relationships with Families (10 hours)
  • Content Area IV.A: Observing, Recording, and Assessing Development OR Content Area IV.B: Assessing and Using Information to Plan (10 hours*)

*Required even if you have a current, age-appropriate Minnesota teaching license.
